The Season for Tractor Fires
Avoid adding to the tractor fire statistics this season by being vigilant against birds nesting in your tractor. An insurance broker told a story about a farmer who bought a brand-new tractor and started working with it at 10 am, but by 2 pm it was a burnt shell. The cause; a busy bird that built a nest in the engine during the lunch break. It takes 15 minutes for a bird to build a nest and 15 minutes for the fire to be inextinguishable. Take some simple precautions;
- Pop the bonnet to check before use.
- Regularly clean combustible materials from the tractor using an air compressor blower.
- Consider using a bird repellent substances or device.
- CARRY A FIRE EXTINGUISHER IN THE CAB.
